The Ecological Sanctuary of Pipa is a private environmental preservation area protecting an important Atlantic Forest remnant on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. Inside, trails open to the public lead to natural viewpoints, wildlife observation areas and, on some routes, beaches accessible only through the forest.

The Marmosets

The main attraction of the Sanctuary is the white-faced marmosets — small primates that live freely in the area and have become accustomed to human presence over the years. Along the main trail they appear in branches at close range, making the experience memorable especially for children. Do not feed the animals — it disrupts their natural behavior.

Trails and What to Expect

There are trails of different lengths and difficulty levels. The most popular leads to a viewpoint overlooking the coast. Longer trails reach preserved beaches accessible only through the Sanctuary. Closed shoes are essential; bring sunscreen and insect repellent.

Hours and Prices

The Sanctuary typically opens Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 5pm. Entry is around R$20–30 per adult. Ask at the hostel reception for current prices — they can vary by season.
